/ˈluːnər ɪˈklɪps/
Lesson: Wonders of the night sky

A lunar eclipse is an event in which Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon and its shadow falls on the Moon.

A lunar eclipse happens only when the Moon is full. In a total lunar eclipse, the Moon can look red; in a partial one, only part of it enters Earth's shadow.
